Text2BHealthy is a text message program sponsored by the University of Maryland Extension SNAP-Ed program. Our goal is to engage parents and their children in opportunities in school and the surrounding community to eat healthy and get enough physical activity.
Your child currently has an educator come into their school to teach them about healthy eating and getting physical activity throughout their school year. This program helps to complement what your child is learning in class and keep you aware of those activities.
As a parent or family member, you can choose to opt in to this program if interested in receiving text messages 2 times each week. Text messages will include information about events at school, grocery sales on healthy food items in the local stores, and events in the community. The goal is to provide information and ideas that parents can use to act on at a convenient time during their busy schedule.
Sample Text Messages:
* "T2BH: Try serving fruit for dessert. Cantaloupe & pineapple are great choices - cut, remove the rind & serve! Giant has both on sale - buy 1 get 1 free!"
* "T2BH: Take the family to Chancellor's Run Park this Sunday for the Health & Fitness Expo from 10am-3pm. Lots of healthy eating tips & fun ways to get moving!"
* "T2BH: Looking for a fun activity to do with your child tomorrow? The Y on 33rd St is having a Y Healthy Kids Day from 10-1pm. Free fitness classes and healthy foods!"
* "T2BH: Kids are out of school today. Let them cool off while playing water games. Try a water balloon toss, running thru the sprinkler, or water bottle squirt tag."
